Vitoria
Cathedral of Santa Maria
The Cathedral of Santa Maria de Vitoria, popularly known as Old Cathedral, is a Gothic-style Catholic temple located in Vitoria. Since summer of 2015 the temple is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage monuments under the name Camino de Santiago: French Way and roads of Northern Spain.
It is located at the highest part of the hill on which the primitive city was founded in 1181 "Nova Victoria" and that later gave rise to the present city. This temple, according to stylistic and formal criteria, is discreet and Its relevance is given by its complex construction.
Square the Fueros
It is a square of triangular shape located in the Ensanche of Vitoria. It was built in 1979 by the architect Luis Peña Ganchegui, in collaboration with Eduardo Chillida, Luis Carlos Roda, Roberto Fernández and Emilio Truchuelo.
It is next to the Casa de Correos in Vitoria.
The Plaza de los Fueros is mainly used during the celebrations of La Blanca, which take place in August. The square is used during those days for many leisure activities, such as concerts. There are also competitions of Basque rural sports.
Square of the Virgen Blanca
Old Square, is the main meeting place of Vitoria. It is located between the neighborhoods of Casco Viejo and the Ensanche. It is surrounded by white houses and in the center of square is a monument in memory of the Battle of Vitoria, an episode of the War of Independence.
In 2007, it underwent an important change, in which the pavement was changed and the green areas were eliminated.
Celedón
Celedon is the character with his arrival, coming down from the sky with an umbrella opens the festivities of Vitoria, in the Basque province of Álava
The celebrations of Vitoria are celebrated in honor to the Virgin White with the celebration of commemorates the 5 of August. The party of beginning of the days before the Bled of Celedón that is realized in the Place of the Virgin White before a great multitude that Receives the character Igniting pure and opening bottles of champagne.
From the top of the church of San Miguel, at 6 pm after throwing the ´´chupinazo´´, Celedon (a doll suspended by a rope) "flying" on all the people and with its open umbrella, arrives at a Sale balcony already become human to pass on this occasion by walking among the crowd. Wall of Vitoria
The wall was a walled enclosure that fortified in the Middle Ages the town of Vitoria, and its construction took place at the end of the eleventh century.
It retains approximately half of the total volume, and was recovered at the beginning of the 21st century in a performance that received the award granted by the organization Europa Nostra in 2010.
Machete Square
In the southern area of Casco Viejo is a beautiful medieval corner. It owes its name to the machete that is kept in an urn in the apse of the Church of San Miguel. The Palace of Villa Suso is also here.
Cultural festivals are held here several times a year. The accesses are on foot.
Under the machete is engraved in stone the oath that the Attorney General had to do before the mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz.
The Thread of Time (Mural)
The title, comes from the historical reality of the square, which in medieval times was a market of cloths and clothes.
The wall measures more than 225 m2 and 13 volunteers participated: both artists and amateurs. After two weeks of intense bocetaje, it was painted in four weeks on a scaffold of rack made donated by the Foundation Santa Maria Cathedral. Golden high quality acrylic paint was donated by the Sam and Adele Golden Foundation. The HLG system protection and anti-graffiti coating was donated and applied by Gratet.
The mural was inaugurated with a great public party enlivened by a performance created specifically by Mari Zurbano, muralist participant.
After seeing the most characteristic of the city of Vitoria we will have free time to eat and enjoy for example visit the old town
and then we will leave for the Salto del Nervión, a wonderful landscape.

Salto del Nervión
Salto del Nervión has its origin in the estuary of Bilbao. It is located between the provinces of Álava, Burgos and Bizkaia where we can find the waterfall of the entire Iberian Peninsula, the Salto del Nervión. It has more than 300 meters of freefall in which the water diffuses until colliding with the rock of the mountain.
The waterfall or Salto del Nervión is located in Alava’s lands, the Natural Monument Monte Santiago is in Burgos.
