LISBON

The capital of Portugal, Lisbon is a bustling and exciting city that boasts a wide choice of activities and fascinating tourist attractions. The city has a welcoming and liberal atmosphere, while still embracing its deep-rooted heritage and extensive history.

Marques de Pombal Square

The Marques de Pombal Square is the center of modern Lisbon. It is located next to Eduardo VII Park, at the end of Avenida da Liberdade. In the center of the square stands a monument which represents the Marquis of Pombal, who was the governor of Lisbon between 1750 and 1777.

Restauradores Square

The most representative feature of the Restauradores Square is the Monument of the Restorers, an obelisk in the center of the square. The bronze and gold figures of the pedestal represent Victory and Liberty. The names and dates that are engraved on the sides of the obelisk are the battles of the War of the Restoration.

Mirador de San Pedro de Alcántara

This viewpoint offers stunning views over Lisbon. From here you can see the Avenida de la Luz, the Restauradores, the Rossio, the Castle of San Jorge, the Lisbon Cathedral and the beautiful Tagus River. The viewpoint is in a pretty garden, where you can eat something while enjoying the view. This viewpoint is located near the Bairro Alto.

Belem Tower

Belem Tower, which represents Manueline style, was built between 1515 and 1519 and is the work of Francisco de Arruda. In 1983 it was declared a Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. The tower is located at the beginning of the Tagus River and was initially meant to defend the city. Later on it became a customs centre, and a lighthouse. It is located very close to the Jeronimos Monastery.

Elevator of Santa Justa

Also called Elevador do Carmo, it is an elevator which connects neighbourhoods of Baixa Pombalina and Chiado. It connects promenade with Praza do Carmo, next to the Archaeological Museum. This elevator was designed by Raoul Mesnier de Ponsard.

Alfama neighbourhood

This old fishermen's place is located between Castle of San Jorge and the sea. It is concidered to be the essence of Lisbon, a neighbourhood of colours. From the upper part of the Alfama we will have a magnificent view of the entire neighbourhood that goes down to the Tagus River and to the port. Fado Museum is located in Alfama.

Cristo Rey

It welcomes us in the city with open arms, and reminds us of the emblematic Cristo Redentor of Rio de Janeiro. It is a religious monument and a sanctuary; it is the biggest tourist attraction in the municipality of Almada, next to the famous beaches of Costa da Caparica.

Cathedral

Called la Sé, is the oldest and most important church in the city. It was built in the 12th century and its predominant style is Romanesque. Its full name is Santa María Maior. During its history the cathedral has been reformed several times, for example when the great earthquake of 1755 destroyed several parts of the church.

PORTO

The second biggest city in Portugal and the first place we are going to visit. Porto is a fascinating and vibrant city that is rapidly becoming one of Western Europe’s most respected tourist destinations. Porto is a historic and varied city, from the warren of narrow streets that make up the ancient Ribeira district through to the grand Plaza of the Trindade district. The region is famed for the production of Port, which is still stored and matured in the vast cellars that stretch along the banks of the Douro River.

Ribeira Neighbourhood

Ribeira neighbourhood is one of the most important places to see the historical center, located next to the river. Its colourful facades attract the attention of all visitors. It is a charming place to have dinner or have a walk in the evening.

Iglesia Do Carmo

Iglesia Do Carmo is one of the most beautiful and famous religious buildings in Porto. It is located near the Tower of the Clérigos, next to the Church of the Carmelites. It was built between 1756 and 1762, its main facade is in rococo style. On its side facade it has a mosaic that forms one of the largest and most exquisite tile designs in the entire city. This mosaic was made in 1912 by Silvestre Silvestri.

Clerigos Church

Clerigos Church was classified as National Monument in 1910. Clerigos Tower is one of the main symbols of the city. It is located in the historical centre of the city and it´s made by granite. Its height exceeds 75 metres and you can ascend to it, thanks to the stairway of 240 steps inside it.

Sao Bento Station

The first train that arrived to Sao Bento station was in 1896, but it wasn’t until 1916 when the station was officially opened. The building is one of the most important works of the beginning of the 10th century, by Marques da Silva. It has 20.000 tiles with historical representation, by the painter Jorge Colaço.

Lello Library

Known as Harry Potter’s library, Lello library is located in the Historical Centre of the city, next to the Clerigos Tower. It has been recognised as one of the most beautiful libraries in the world.
