San Juan de Gaztelugatxe

Here you have photos from San Juan de Gaztelugatxe so you can compare and see how they edited this place in Game of Thrones:

The church of San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is located in the islet of Gaztelugatxe, pertaining the municipality of Bermeo. The access to this church is possible, thanks to a bridge with two arches that connects que islet with the continent. The church, built in honor to St. John during the X century, has suffered dozens of mishaps and fires. The last one, in 1978, obliged to rebuild the temple completely after the fire provoked by unknown criminals. The tradition says that once you have reached the top of the islet, you can ring the church's bell three times and make a wish.

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe was a location for the setting of the Seventh Season of Game of Thrones. If you are a fan of the show, you need to visit this place!

Butrón Castle

Located in Gatika, Butrón Castle is one of the symbols of the basque nobility. Besides its origin in the middle age, when a house-tower was built in that place, the current aspect of the castle respond to the remodeling completed by the marquis of Cuba's during the XIX century. This architect is also responsible of constructions like the University of Deusto or The National Museum of Anthropology. The germanic style of this building contrasts with the rest of castles of the region, because the marquis of Cuba's built the castle as a hobby and to create an attractive building for visitors. Living in the castle is really uncomfortable, because most of the rooms are connected by exterior footbridges. Nowadays, the castle is closed and the owning company is trying to sell it.

Cannon and Lighthouse of Gorliz

Gorliz is one of the most visited municipalities of Biscay during summer due to its large beach. Apart from that, Gorliz has the honor to host the highest built lighthouse of the cantabric coast. The lighthouse, with 22 metres of height is built in a cliff of 165 metres. Near the Lighthouse, we can find the bunker of Gorliz, built after the Spanish Civil War in order to protect the coast from the possible landing of the Allies´s army during the IIWW. Once we cross the bunkers, we can find the cannon of Gorliz, the only cannon that still remains in the place. You need to know that this cannon was never used, because the Allies never landed in the coast of Biscay.

Puente de Vizcaya

El Puente Colgante de Bizkaia is another symbol of Biscay. Located between Portugalete and Las Arenas, this bridge was the first suspension bridge of the world. They started to build this bridge during 1883 in order to transport people from one side of the estuary to the other. The bridge, that is 61 metres high and 160 metres long, is still used to connect Portugalete and Las Arenas.
